About the Playlist

Music for the Hush Between Twilight and Moonrise is an hour of music chosen to bring calm and solace, drawing from composers across the UK. The playlist features recent work from cellist Peter Gregson, Northern Ireland-based composer Michael Keeney, Angus Macrae, and many more — alongside a showcase of new music that includes Lyz’s own piece, Somnus X.

About Somnus X

Somnus X is a ten-minute composition written specifically to support better sleep. You can find it in our sleep music collection, or as part of a sonic prescription if you select that you are struggling with sleep.

The British Academy of Sound Therapy conducted a study into the effects of this piece, and the results were genuinely encouraging.

Participants completed a questionnaire exploring the quality and duration of their sleep, and the knock-on impact on their health, wellbeing, relationships, and work before and after seven days of listening to Somnus X — with the freedom to play it multiple times through the night or whenever they needed it.

At the outset, 41% of participants felt they definitely had a sleep problem, 45% said they sometimes experienced one, and 14% felt they didn’t have a sleep problem at all — though all were included in the study. By the end of the seven days, difficulties had decreased across the board. Some categories showed an interesting shift too: where participants had previously described their sleep difficulties as severe, many moved to describing them as only slight — a meaningful step in the right direction.
